Spreading my Wings

I’ve found over time that its very difficult to have a single website when im a photographer that caters for many different genres.  My current website took on a more of a commercial slant, as that was where the bulk of my work was coming from, but i felt that i was also doing diss-service to the the other genres that i cover with equal amounts of enthusiasm.

So, it was time for a change.  No, im not going to concentrate on one genre, i love the diversity of photography toooo much, but instead i decided to create three separate websites.  These broadly cater for the three subjects i cater for Commercial & Corporate Photography, Wedding & Lifestyle Photography and Landscape Photography.

The three websites all have a similar feel to them to maintain a pleasing aesthetic feel but importantly retain the same corporate branding.  Please take a look and give me some feedback, i’d like to feel that im heading in the right direction with these but it is you, and hopefully many other people, who view these sites that can answer this.

If you know someone who this may be of interest to please do share my blog – and my websites 🙂

Doncaster Event Photography – Aurora Cancer Charity

I had the huge honour of being asked to photograph the Aurora Cancer Charity Christmas Ball again this year.  The event is a spectacular finale celebrating all their fundraising efforts over the year and awards are given to some very deserving finalists.

The charity rallies support from the local business community, health care professionals and those affected by cancer either directly or indirectly and monies raised goes towards funding the Aurora Wellbeing Centres.  The centres exist to help anyone with a cancer diagnosis by offering a free package of well-being treatments to help raise their confidence and self-esteem and create a general sense of well being.  More info can be found on their website.

The Christmas Ball was an evening of glitz, glamour and fun with a full three course meal, awards presentations and a lively disco.  Our event Photo Booth proved to be popular once again and many people headed home with a mounted image from our onsite printing team.

If you’d like more information of how our Commercial Event Photography services can add that little extra to your event, whether a Charity or Corporate event, then please do get in touch for further information or see our website.

World Record Photography

It’s not very often you get to photograph a Guinness World Record Attempt but that exactly what i did back in April, yes sorry for the delay on this blog, its been a little busy 🙂

I was commissioned by North Notts Business Connections who put the event together in the hope of stealing the title of “The most people at a networking event” which was currently held by the Aussies.  It needed a venue of mammoth proportions so where better to hold the event than the Newark Showground?  This sprawling venue, which at one time used to be RAF Swinderby where i spent the early days of my RAF career, boasts multiple function rooms, more than ample parking and east access to to the A1.

The event was well attended by businesses from around the region involving 16 different networking groups but fell short of the required target to snatch the mantle from the Aussies but many businesses many many new contacts and im sure they will reap the rewards.

Here are just a few images from the day.  Don’t forget we can cover many corporate & commercial events as part of our photographic services.  To find out more check out our website or get in touch, we’d love to hear from you.

JDRF Charity Photoshoot 2014

Back in 2012 i dreamed up an idea to raise awareness of a charity called JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation).  It was a charity I was not familiar with until my son was diagnosed Type 1 Diabetic at the age of just 3.  The charity exists to help improve the care of those affected by Type 1 Diabetes and find a much needed cure.

I wanted an event that would increase awareness of the Juvenile Type 1 Diabetes and also of this charity, all while raising much needed charitable funds.  The government give approximately £52 million to Diabetes research and all of this goes to Type 2 Diabetes, type 1 Diabetes gets zero direct government funding.  It was also my desire to create an event that gave something back to those who donate.  That is where and why my JDRF charity photoshoots started.

So, with the first one under my belt, and a whopping £1200 raised, i had to somehow push the boundaries and i have to say that organising this one proved to be a harder task than the first.  I’m not going into the why & what for’s but after having an initial models list of 14 plus spares this dwindled down to just 6 who arrived on the day (If i didn’t show it my stress levels were off the scale on the morning of the event).

Determined not to let this damper our spirits i set to task and got the event up and running.  The venue at the last event proved to be such a success so i figured why change it, so, back we went to the wonderful and enchanting ruins of Rufford Abbey in Nottinghamshire.  The team there were fantastic and even facilitated the use of a HUGE marquee which allowed us to add a little extra to the day in the form of a studio setup.  With a little guidance, if needed, the photographers were free to use this area to further expand their skills and portfolios.  A big thank you to Michael of Michael Mills Photography for assisting and helping run this side of the event.

The day was attended by 27 photographers of varying levels from amateurs to seasoned professionals and judging by the conversations and comments on the day it seems that most learned a great deal from each other.  There is never one ‘right’ way to do things in photography so its always nice to see how others work.

I have seen an amazing collection of images coming through our Facebook group from the day and i’m sure there will be plenty more to come, i for one managed to capture a few more images on this shoot than i did on the first and a small selection can be seen below.

Images aside the day was also about raising funds for JDRF and beating my target of £1200.  So, i hear you ask, did we do it????  As i write this blog the total raised is a whopping £1387.88 which i am absolutely over the moon with and all those involved should be equally proud of this figure and your efforts to make the day a huge success.

I’d like to end by saying a massive THANK YOU to all the models – Jessica, Lucie, Nicky, Ashleigh, Ed , Matt and our MUA Charlii (who worked amazingly hard on her own).  Without you this event would not have happened and your commitment and enthusiasm has not gone unnoticed.

If you would be interested in attending a future charity photoshoot please do get in touch and you can be added to our mailing list for prior notification and you can also keep up to date by visiting my website.

Bridal Fashion Shoot at Hodsock Priory

I had the opportunity to get involved with a bridal fashion shoot at Hodsock Priory, Blyth this week.  It was a day of testing, experimenting and getting to grips with new techniques.

With a fantastic team including Models, MUA, Bridal-wear Designer and a voice activated light stand (thanks Jazz) we had a fantastic day in this amazing venue.  A big thank you must go to team at Hodsock Priory and to all those involved in organising the day and making it a huge success – our fantastic models Bethany Harrison & Tim Millington, the MUA & Hair stylist Tammy Brown, the beautiful dresses by Olivia Jane Jones & the flowers by Flowers by Kay.

Here are a few of my favourites from the day.

Reflecting on a good year – 2013

Just been archiving a load of images from 2013 so i thought I’d put up a little blog post as a sort of reflection on the year.  Its been one of my busiest photographically and i’ve pressed the shutter button more times this year than any other.

One thing that I have noticed this year though that I have neglected making images for my own pleasure, most of my work has been commercial or wedding orientated, so, over the course of the next twelve months i intend to make more of an effort to shoot some personal images in the genres of Landscape & Street photography.

The images below are not a “best of”, they are more of a look back of some fun, memorable moments from 2013.  I hope you like them!!

I love street photography. One of my goals this year is to shoot a lot more than i did in 2013. Capturing life in an uncontrolled environment is not easy but its loads of fun.

Not sure why I've included this image. Possiblhy because it encapsulates all that is right with this country and all that is wrong with it too!! I love this country for its history, architechture, culture and diversity but boy do i get annoyed with those that run it. I'm not going there in this blog though :-/

Retford Wedding Photography – Cassie & Stewart

This was my final wedding of 2013 and after an amazing year it ended on a high with the wedding of Cassie & Stewart. They tied the knot at the fantastic West Retford Hotel.  This was my first wedding at this venue and it did not disappoint.  The late afternoon ceremony meant that any outdoor images would be made in darkness but what a fantastic creative opportunity  this venue gave me.  With the fantastic interior decor and the equally wonderful ornate gardens I created a compelling portfolio of images of their day.

Here are a small selection of images from their spacial day,  a big thank you must go to the staff at the West Retford hotel for their hospitality on the day.  Please feel free to leave a comment & if you would like more details of our photography services then please pop and see our website or why not come and give us a ‘Like’ on Facebook? 🙂

Clumber Park Hotel & Spa Wedding Photography – Melanie & Gareth

I photographed my penultimate wedding of 2013 recently at Clumber Park Hotel & Spa.  A venue which is just ten minutes from my home and nestled on the outskirts of the wonderful Sherwood Forest and Clumber Park.  Melanie & Gareth booked me to capture their special day some time ago, you may remember a recent blog of their pre-wedding photoshoot.

Here are a few images from their special day, they even managed to book a ten minute rain shower in the evening that allowed me to capture a special image for the bride & groom.  Many thanks once again to the ever helpful staff at Clumber Park Hotel.  If you would like to enquire about our wedding photography services please do get in touch, we’d love to hear from you.  To see more of my work why not drop by my website, Facebook or Twitter pages.

Clumber Park Hotel & Spa Wedding Photography – Jolene & Phil

It was a huge pleasure to be asked to photograph Jolene & Phil’s special day and you may remember a blog post of their recent pre-wedding photoshoot at Clumber Park, Nottinghamshire.  The venue for their big day was the beautiful Clumber Park Hotel & Spa which is nestled on the outskirts of Clumber Park itself.

Jolene & Phil are a fun loving couple and wanted this portrayed in their images, even their wedding car went with a bang.  After a short ceremony we enjoyed a short walk down the famous Lime Tree avenue in Clumber Park to capture some beautiful autumnal images.  Here is a small selection of images from their special day.  For more information about our wedding photography please get in touch, we’d love to hear from you.

Nottinghamshire Pre-Wedding Photoshoot – Melanie & Gareth

Tomorrow I’ll be photographing the wedding of Melanie & Gareth.  They have chosen the wonderful Clumber Park Hotel & Spa nestled on the outskirts of Clumber Park, a National Trust estate in North Nottinghamshire.

Below is a small selection from their pre-wedding photoshoot which was also taken in the same area and we were treated to some wonderful evening light.  Although the forecast for tomorrow is somewhat inclement I can’t wait to capture their day, they are a fun loving couple and i know their special day will be perfect whatever the weather.  I’ll look forward to sharing some images with you soon.
